LONDON, Ontario, May 30, 2006 - On behalf of Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Michael Chong, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, and Minister for Sport, today announced $98,000 in funding for Theatre London. The funds will support the 2006 Theatre for Young Audiences, Main Stage Multi-Centre Presentation, and UnderGrand series of performances at the Grand Theatre.
"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting access to the arts for all Canadians and to fostering creativity, diversity, and excellence," said Minister Oda. "Theatre London gives the public access to first-rate artistic experiences and highlights our our creativity and diversity."
"Theatre London makes a significant contribution to the cultural and economic of the London area," said Minister Chong. "This theatre exemplifies the artistic excellence which results from our community working together."
Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
Funding announced today was built into the existing fiscal framework.
