Opening Ceremony of International Military Sports Council’s Running Championship
New for 2006, the Ottawa Race Weekend includes Canadian and international military athletes. As they run with all Race Weekend contenders, these military members will also be vying for placings in the Continental/ Invitational Running Championship for the International Military Sports Council (Conseil international du sport militaire, CISM), an international military sports organization with 127 member countries.
Over 70 military athletes representing 12 different countries (Algeria, Barbados, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Jamaica, Morocco, Netherlands, UK, USA, and Venezuela) are Ottawa-bound this weekend to compete in the Ottawa Race Weekend.
There are runners – 12 of whom are Canadian Force members – entered in each of the four races; the MDS Nordion 5k and MDS Nordion 10k on Saturday, May 27, as well as the ING Ottawa Marathon (42k) and Half Marathon (21k) on Sunday, May 28.
To welcome the international competitors and kick-off the Running Championship weekend, the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA) is hosting an opening ceremony which will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at Ottawa City Hall.
