Florenceville, New Brunswick
The Village of Florenceville
today unveiled plans for a new waterfront boardwalk. The
Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) is investing
$1,629,360 in the $2 million project through the Innovative
Communities Fund (ICF).Mike Allen, MP for Tobique-Mactaquac, made the announcement
in Florenceville on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of ACOA. "Canada's
new government supports working with local municipalities
on projects that will benefit generations to come," Mr.
Allen said. "This construction project will highlight the
natural beauty of the area, it will benefit the local
economy, and it will build on the strength of other tourism
attractions in the region.""The boardwalk is an important addition to our community's
tourism infrastructure," said Nancy Whyte McCauley,
Florenceville Village Councilor. "The boardwalk will be an
excellent opportunity to encourage visitors to our
community, share our history and experience the hospitality
of Florenceville."The boardwalk will be built along the banks of the Saint
John River and will feature several interpretive areas for
the enjoyment of tourists and citizens. The boardwalk
complements existing tourism assets and will encourage
visitors to explore downtown Florenceville, providing
another reason for tourists to visit the area.
ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) focuses on
investments that lead to long-term employment and economic
capacity building in rural communities.
