Through investments in the Town of Cansothe Stan Rogers
Festival site and the Canso arenathe Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency (ACOA) is building on success while
supporting efforts to diversify the area's resource-based
economy.
ACOA is investing $215, 962 in improvements to the Stan
Rogers Festival site and the Canso arena.
"We are pleased to invest in community infrastructure in
the Town of Canso," said the Honourable Peter MacKay,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of ACOA. "When
government, community organizations, individuals and
businesses work together, our common economic development
objectives can be achieved."
Improvements to the Stan Rogers Festival site include the
construction of a fixed main stage, drainage upgrade,
campground enhancements, and leasehold improvements to the
on-site administrative building. This tourism
infrastructure investment will enable the festival to
expand its live musical performance timeline from a one-
weekend event to a year-round series of events.
Enhancements to the arena include electrical, mechanical
and structural upgrades. The arena, which is used as an
entertainment venue for the festival, will also be
available to host a variety of community events year-round.
"This is an excellent example of the voluntary sector,
municipalities, and federal and provincial agencies coming
together to strengthen the tourism infrastructure in our
community," said Ray White, Mayor of the Town of
Canso. "This project will also enable us to utilize
existing facilities for a multitude of activities, year-
round."
