OTTAWA, June 30, 2006 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Christopher Donison, of Victoria, as a part-time member of the Board of Trustees of the National Arts Centre (NAC).
Mr. Donison has garnered a wide range of experience in Canada's music and theatre industry over the past 30 years. As musical director of the Shaw Festival from 1988 to 1998, he spent a decade in senior management at one of Ontario's most notable performing arts organizations. He has extensive performance credentials and has produced a number of original works in various musical genres, including choral, chamber, orchestral, and opera. Mr. Donison was also a founder of the Shaw Festival String Quartet Residency.
He has served as an advisory board member for Orchestras Canada's Small Ensembles Program and an executive board member for the Association of Canadian Librettists, Composers, and Lyricists.
The NAC Corporation is a federal cultural organization dedicated primarily to developing and showcasing the performing arts in the National Capital Region and across Canada. Home to the acclaimed National Arts Centre Orchestra, the NAC is a multidisciplinary performing arts centre that features classical music, dance, English- and French-language theatre, variety shows, and regional programming.
