OTTAWA — Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Lawrence Cannon, today announced the appointment of Mr. Carol Soucy of Sept-Îles, Quebec,
to the board of directors of the Sept-Îles Port Authority.
"I am very pleased that Mr. Soucy will be returning to the board of the Sept-Îles

assumes his duties on the board."
Mr. Soucy is a trained commercial aircraft and helicopter pilot, as well as a
ship captain. Between 1999 and 2001, he was a member of the board of directors
of the Sept-Îles Port Authority, and was vice president of the board between
2001 and 2004. Since 2004, he has been director at the Centre d'achat Carrefour
La Baie de Sept-Îles. From 1989 to 2000, he was a director, president and chief

from 1982 to 1989.
The Sept-Îles Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to
manage the port of Sept-Îles, effective May 1, 1999, under the Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the
Sept-Îles Port Authority benefits from greater management flexibility, including
increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money from commercial lenders.
Open to year-round navigation, the Port of Sept-Îles is the most important iron
ore port in Canada, serving the mining industries of Quebec and Newfoundland and
Labrador. In 2004, the Port of Sept-Îles handled 17.5 million tonnes of cargo and welcomed close to 575 ships.
