MONCTON, NEW BRUNSWICK — Rob Moore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding of $91,510 under the Supporting Communities and Partnerships Initiative (SCPI), a component of the Government of Canada's National Homelessness Initiative.
"Canada's new government is proud to support a project that is providing our most vulnerable citizens with access to the information and services they need to improve their lives," said Mr. Moore.
The Find My Way project will enable the Volunteer Centre of Southeastern New Brunswick Inc. to help disadvantaged persons acquire relevant and current information about services available in Greater Moncton. This will be accomplished by means of a pocket directory of emergency services contact information and an interactive Web site. Nine non-profit organizations have been designated as Community Resource Centres (CRC) and will serve as access points for these services. One CRC will also become a designated 24-hour telephone contact centre.
For 28 years, the Volunteer Centre of Southeastern New Brunswick Inc. has been striving to build a stronger community through leadership, support and services. Its goal is to deliver creative and unique solutions to serve the needs of the community.
By working in partnership with community organizations, the private and voluntary sectors, and other levels of government, the National Homelessness Initiative brings stakeholders together to develop local solutions that work to address the particular needs and challenges faced by homeless people. Through this coordinated approach, the following programs are available to support communities across Canada: the SCPI, the Urban Aboriginal Homelessness program, the Regional Homelessness Fund, the National Research Program, the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System, and the Surplus Federal Real Property for Homelessness Initiative.
