OTTAWA - Sunday, June 4th, marks the fifth annual Canadian forces
Day, a day when Canadians have the opportunity to pay tribute to the men and
women of the Canadian Forces.
"Canadian Forces Day is a time for Canadians to salute the brave men and
women who serve in our armed forces," said the Honourable Gordon O'Connor,
Minister of National Defence. "I want to express my personal gratitude
for the dedication, skill, professionalism and humanity the Canadian Forces
demonstrate in their jobs everyday, whether here in Canada or abroad."
"Canadian Forces Day gives the public a chance to show their support for
the work of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen and airwomen who wear the maple
leaf on their shoulder defending Canada and promoting Canadian values around
the world," said General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff.
Canadian Forces Day is a day officially recognized by the Government of Canada
to acknowledge our soldiers, sailors and air personnel in the Regular and Reserve
Forces for their contributions and achievements.
