OTTAWA, ONTARIO, June 29, 2006 -- Celebrate Canada Day by visiting Canada's natural and cultural treasures. On July 1, 2006, the Honorable Rona Ambrose, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, is offering free entry to all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas for all Canadians and international visitors.
"On Canada Day, we invite Canadians from all walks of life to experience Canada at its best," said Minister Ambrose. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to get together with family and friends to learn about our special places that have become symbols of Canada around the world."
On behalf of Canadians and in collaboration with partners, Parks Canada protects and presents 154 national historic sites, 42 national parks and two national marine conservation areas of Canada. It is committed to ensuring that the heritage features of these wonders, from unique ecosystems and species to historic buildings and artifacts, are preserved for future generations to experience and enjoy.
"Our national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas are priceless and it is our duty to make sure we do everything we can to protect and present these examples of our natural and cultural heritage, said Parks Canada CEO Alan Latourelle.
