Vancouver The Honourable Betty Hinton, M.P., the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, presented the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation on behalf of Minister Greg Thompson to eight outstanding Canadians for their dedication and devotion to Canada's Veterans during a ceremony at the Sutton Place Hotel.
"I am proud to honour our eight recipients today, all of whom have made different contributions, yet are alike in their generosity of spirit", said Ms. Hinton. "Your actions exemplify the highest ideals of duty, service and sacrifice."
The commendation was presented to the following Canadians:
Jack Anderson (Kelowna, British Columbia)
Ted Brothers (posthumous) (Nanaimo, British Columbia)
Barbara Duncan (Victoria, British Columbia)
John Keresman (Mission, British Columbia)
George McLean (Burnaby, British Columbia)
Herbert Merrett (Vancouver, British Columbia)
Douglas Warren (Comox, British Columbia)
Hill Wilson (Victoria, British Columbia)
The Commendation is presented to individuals who have contributed to the care and well-being of Veterans and to the remembrance of their contributions, sacrifices and achievements. It is intended primarily for Veterans, but in rare circumstances may also be awarded to non-Veterans. The Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation consists of a bar, which can be worn above or below official decorations on a Veteran's blazer, a lapel pin for civilian wear and a certificate.
