Quispamsis, New Brunswick
Government officials and dignitaries gathered today in
Quispamsis to officially activate the Town's new
$6.2 million wastewater system and to announce a $645,222
investment in additional water and sewer upgrades. The
projects are made possible, respectively, through the
Canada-New Brunswick Infrastructure Program (CNBIP) and the
Canada-New Brunswick Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund
(CNBMRIF)."Sound infrastructure supports our quality of life and our
economic progress. These types of projects will help ensure
that key infrastructure is in place for residents of
Quispamsis now and in the future," said Rob Moore, MP for
Fundy-Royal on behalf of the Hon. Peter MacKay, Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "The Government of Canada,
through ACOA, is proud to have partnered with all levels of
government on such important projects." "Helping municipalities to improve their water and
wastewater systems has a direct impact on their quality of
life, and we're happy to help support Quispamsis in these
projects," Premier Bernard Lord said. "These improvements
also help us to work toward our Clean Province goal under
the Five in Five initiative.""As one of the fastest growing communities in New
Brunswick, we wanted to exercise responsible management of
our wastewater treatment system. These Infrastructure
Programs enabled the Town to achieve this goal," said
Quispamsis Mayor Ron Maloney. "These projects were a major
infrastructure undertaking that could not have happened
without the support of both levels of government."Today's official ceremony marked the completion of the
$6.2 million Canada-New Brunswick Infrastructure Program
project which was originally announced in March of 2004.
The announced Quispamsis CNBMRIF project will involve the
installation of sewer pipe to service a nursing facility
that will accommodate 70 people and 400 building lots. Each
of the three funding partners will contribute one third
($215,074) of the costs for the Quispamsis investment.More information on federal and New Brunswick
infrastructure programs can be found at
