Space Shuttle Discovery Launch: July 1, 2006

Longueuil, Quebec, June 15, 2006 - Media are invited to the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for the launch of NASA's Space Shuttle
Discovery, set for July 1, 2006. Canada is again playing a critical role by providing an extended inspection boom developed by MDA and a 3-D laser camera built by Neptec, to be used to examine the outer surfaces and tiles of the space shuttle.
CSA Astronaut Chris Hadfield will be on-site to comment on the launch and mission activities. Partners and other speakers will also be on-site and available for interviews.

Journalists are invited to contact CSA Media Relations by phone or e-mail to indicate their interest in attending the launch event or to identify special requirements. Media briefings will also be organized at various dates throughout the mission.

Discovery Mission
Space Shuttle Discovery with its seven-member crew will be leaving for the International Space Station on an 11-day mission. The crew will continue to test new equipment and procedures to increase
Space Shuttle safety. This testing began with Return to Flight
mission STS-114 last year (July 26 to August 9, 2005). The crew will also perform maintenance activities on the International Space Station and deliver supplies and cargo for future station expansion.
