OTTAWA, July 5, 2006 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Eloise E. Opheim, of Saskatoon, as a part-time member of the Board of Trustees of the Canada Science and Technology Museum.
Ms. Opheim is the founder of PRIDE CANADA (Parents' Resource Institute for Drug Education) and was its Executive Director from 1981 to 2001. She has more than 20 years of experience serving as Chairperson and Director in more than 10 international, national, and local non-profit and government boards including Luther Care Foundation, Partnership for a Drug-Free Canada, Canadian Centre for Positive Youth Development, International Parent Movement for Drug-Free Youth, Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, and Whitespruce Adolescent Treatment Centre.
Ms. Opheim was appointed to the Order of Canada (1991) and has been honoured with the Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award (1998), the International Parents for Drug-Free Youth Award (1990), and the YWCA Woman of the Year Award (1985).
The Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation is responsible for preserving and protecting Canada's scientific and technological heritage and promoting and sharing knowledge about that heritage.
