BRAGG CREEK, Alberta, July 24, 2006 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament (Macleod), announced Saturday funding for the Bragg Creek Community Association. The funds will allow the Association to diversify its programming by presenting a variety of artists from across Canada.
"Canada's new Government is committed to improving our communities' cultural vitality by supporting organizations that work in the performing arts sector," said Minister Oda. "We want to encourage innovation and creativity across the country, by investing in the arts and cultural sector."
"I am pleased that federal government funding will help support the 26th Bragg Creek Performing Arts series," said Mr. Menzies. "I commend the Bragg Creek Performing Arts Committee on its ongoing efforts to offer quality performances and enriching cultural experiences to residents and visitors to the region."
The Bragg Creek Performing Arts will present two series between September 2006 and June 2007, which will include performers from across Canada representing a variety of musical and performing arts genres. Some of the performers include Juno Award Winner Jane Bunnet from Ontario, jazz musician Michael Kaeshammer from British Columbia, and folk singer David Francey from Ontario.
Financial assistance of $9,000 for this project is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.
