Clair, New Brunswick
Officials from the Government of Canada, Province of New
Brunswick and the Village of Clair took part in the
official opening of Clair's new Multipurpose Complex today.
Premier Bernard Lord; Rob Moore, MP for Fundy Royal; and
Ludger Lang, Mayor of Clair were in attendance.The province is proud to invest in key public
infrastructure that improves the quality of life for New
Brunswickers," Premier Lord said. "Today's celebration is
also in keeping with one of the goals of the Five in Five
Initiative, which is making New Brunswick the investment
province.""Canada's new government supports working with communities
on projects that will benefit generations to come," said MP
Moore, on behalf of the Hon. Peter MacKay, Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "The multipurpose complex
will enhance the tourism potential of Clair and the
surrounding region which is important for job creation,
opportunities and economic growth in Atlantic Canada.""I am pleased that the partnership between the three levels
of government and the private sector has worked to bring
this project to fruition," said Mayor Lang. "It is
important for our community and for the region."The new facility will allow the community to host a wide
range of cultural events and tourism initiatives. With a
capacity to accommodate close to 1000 people, the Complex's
location in the Upper Madawaska region will benefit not
only Clair but also surrounding communities such as Saint
François, Lac-Baker, Baker Brook, and Saint-Hilaire, and
the US border town of Fort Kent. The Government of Canada is investing a total of $1,050,000
in the project: $850,000 under ACOA's Strategic Community
Investment Fund (announced in January 2005) and a second
investment of $200,000 for Phase II, announced today under
the Agency's Innovative Community Fund (ICF). The Province of New Brunswick is investing a total of
$680,000 in the project: $480,000 announced in August 2005,
and $200,000 for Phase 2, announced today. The Village of Clair invested a total $390,000 towards the
project, with a $40,000 contribution for Phase II which
includes the construction of warehousing and washroom
facilities, audio visual capabilities, curtain systems and
a multi-functional floor surface. Other financial
supporters of the Complex include J.D. Irving ($100,000),
the Caisse Populaire du Haut Madawaska ($25,000), Waska
($25,000) and Gil's Trucking ($10,000).
