Canada's new government partners with Rendez-Vous Aventure

Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, August 8, 2006 - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, took the opportunity during today's official launch of the 5th edition of Rendez-Vous Aventure to announce the awarding of $180,000 in non-repayable funding for the international promotion of this world-class wind and sea sporting event.
Rendez-Vous Aventure is the only event of its kind in Canada. A registered stop along the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) world-wide competition circuit, this event draws a great many wind sports enthusiasts to the region each year and enjoys wide-spread media coverage in some 100 countries.
"Canada Economic Development is proud to partner for the fifth consecutive year with this major competition, which helps the Îles-de-la-Madeleine region build on its international reputation as a top-notch tourist destination. The Agency is committed to supporting initiatives that, like Rendez-Vous Aventure, serve to diversify the region's tourism offering, attract visitors from Canada and abroad, rally the local population and help lengthen the tourism season," noted Minister Blackburn.
Today's contribution brings to $700,000 the level of funding awarded by the Agency to the organization since 2001 to ensure the event's success. In addition to generating nearly $1.2 million in spin-offs for the archipelago each year, Rendez-Vous Aventure helps the tourism sector maintain its standing as the second largest industry in the region.
