County Cork - Ireland, August 01, 2006 -- Today, on behalf of the Government of Canada, His Excellency, Mark Moher, Canadian Ambassador to Ireland, presented gifts to the people of Ireland in recognition of their support following Canada’s worst terrorist tragedy, the bombing of Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland.“Canada’s Government is doing its utmost to protect Canadians from terrorism and to prevent terrorist acts, such as the one suffered on June 23, 1985 ,” said the HonorableStockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety. “The gifts presented today will help commemorate the generosity of the Irish who welcomed and comforted Canadians on that tragic day.”Three gift-giving ceremonies took place in County Cork, Ireland.
