ST. JOHN'S, NL - Terrance Bungay, of Goulds, was fined $1,500 in St. John's Provincial Court August 7, 2006, for providing false and misleading information to a fishery officer.
Fishery officers from the Bay Roberts detachment and the Special Investigations Unit conducted an inspection of the fishing vessel Robert's Sisters II docked at Port de Grave on May 25, 2006.
Officers compared the vessel's fishing log with data from its navigation computer and discovered that the fishing log contradicted data from the navigational computer involving a shrimp fishing trip from April 16 to April 21, 2003.
The area fished, as indicated by the vessel's fishing log, was 170 nautical miles from the fishing area recorded by the navigation computer.
Lobster fishing without licence and use of illegal gear
Robert Cole and William Zulatink, of Blackhead, near St. John's, were convicted during a provincial court appearance in St. John's on August 4, 2006, for fishing lobster without a licence and use of illegal fishing gear.
Fishery officers from the Bay Roberts detachment were conducting an early morning fishery patrol in the vicinity of Blackhead on June 30, 2006, where they observed two individuals fishing from shore using baited hoop nets.
Lobster fishing regulations require that lobster fishing must take place from a vessel using legal lobster traps.
Mr. Cole and Mr. Zulatink were fined $800 each. Five hoop nets with ropes, a knife and one lobster were seized and forfeited to the Crown.
