President of Latvia to Plant Commemorative Tree at Rideau Hall

OTTAWA Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will receive Her Excellency Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of Latvia, and Mr. Imants Freibergs on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at 1 p.m., at Rideau Hall, for a tree-planting ceremony to commemorate their visit to Canada. The President will plant an American beech alongside the McKay walk near the Heritage Garden.
President Vike-Freiberga has been in Canada since September 20 and was officially welcomed on that day by the Governor General, at the Citadelle in Quebec City.
OPEN TO MEDIA Media are asked to be in place by 12:45 p.m.
