APPOINTMENTS TO CANADA LANDS COMPANY LIMITED
OTTAWA - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, and Minister responsible for the Canada Lands
Company Limited, today announced the appointment of Robert Alan Howald as acting
president and chief executive officer to the board of directors of the Canada
Lands Company Limited. He also announced the appointments of W. Michael Evans
and Louise N. Pelletier to the board of directors for a period of three years.
"I am pleased to announce the appointments of Mr. Howald, Mr. Evans and Ms.
Pelletier," said Minister Cannon. "Their combined experience in project
management, administration and marketing will be an asset for the company."
Mr. Howald holds a bachelor of business administration from Wilfrid Laurier
University and a master of business administration from the University of
Toronto. He is currently the acting vice-president of the eastern region real
estate section of the Canada Lands Company Limited, as well as senior
vice-president of Queens Quay West Land Corporation. Mr. Howald served as chair
for Canada Lands' corporate United Way campaign and as chair for the Campaign
Cabinet of the United Way of the Greater Toronto Area.
Mr. Evans currently serves as president and senior partner of Atlas
Development Corporation, a real estate company specialized in the development of
commercial buildings throughout Western Canada. Prior to his 23-year career at
Atlas Development Corporation, he acquired experience as director of marketing
of Trojan Properties Limited. Mr. Evans holds a bachelor of chemical engineering
from McGill University and a master of business administration from Ivey
Business School at the University of Western Ontario.
Ms. Pelletier holds a master of law from the University of Montreal. She
currently serves as director of legal affairs of the Société immobilière
Trans-Québec (SITQ) Inc. in Montreal, Quebec. Since 1992, Ms. Pelletier has held
various positions as legal counsel and lawyer in the commercial real estate
field. Her professional affiliations include the Canadian Bar Association,
Montreal and New Brunswick divisions, and the American Bar Association.
Canada Lands Company Limited is a Crown corporation created by the Government
of Canada with a mandate to ensure the commercially oriented, orderly
disposition of selected surplus federal real properties with optimal financial
and community values to Canadians, and the holding of certain properties.
