OTTAWA, November 14, 2006 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Bryn C. Matthews, of Pakenham, Ontario, as a part-time member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board.
"Mr. Matthews' varied background and experience will serve the board well. I am certain that this important organization can count on his contribution to help fulfill its mandate," said Minister Oda.
Mr. Matthews is the current co-chair of the board of the Harold Greenberg Fund, a division of Astral Media Television. From 1986 to 1997, he was president and chief operating officer for CTV Ottawa (CJOH television).
Active in the community, Mr. Matthews is chair of the board of the Almonte General Hospital, Chair of the organizing committee of Puppets Up!, Almonte's International Puppet Festival, and Chair of the organizing committee of the annual Teddy Bears Picnic for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). He is also the owner-operator-manager of the Big Sky Farm in Ottawa-Carleton.
The Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board has a mandate to determine whether a cultural property is of outstanding significance or of national importance under the terms of the Cultural Property Export and Import Act. It is also responsible for determining the fair market value of objects donated to Canadian institutions, including libraries, archives, and museums. In addition, the Board reviews appeals of applications denied for permits to export cultural property.
