OTTAWA, November 23, 2006 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Michèle A. Pineau, of Ottawa, as a Vice-Chair of the Public Service Labour Relations Board for a five year term, effective January 1, 2007.
"Ms. Pineau brings a wealth of experience in the field of dispute resolution," said Minister Oda. "I am certain the board will benefit a great deal from her specialized expertise."
A law graduate of McGill University, Ms. Pineau has worked in the dispute resolution field since 1992. She is an experienced bilingual mediator and arbitrator, specializing in the resolution of labour and employment disputes.
Ms. Pineau has worked throughout Canada as vice chair of the Canada Industrial Relations Board and has participated in exchanges with labour relations boards and employment tribunals in Canada, the U.S., Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. She was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for significant contribution to the work of the Canada Industrial Relations Board in 2002.
The Public Service Labour Relations Board is an independent, quasi-judicial statutory tribunal responsible for administering the collective bargaining and grievance adjudication systems in the federal public and parliamentary service. The Board also provides mediation and conflict resolution services to help parties resolve differences without resorting to a formal hearing. As part of its new mandate, the Board has established compensation analysis and research services.
