OTTAWA - November 28, 2006 - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has awarded $39,464 to four applicants to support their participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed Deep Panuke Offshore Gas Development Project. The funding is made available through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency. The recipients are: Native Council of Nova Scotia, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Seafood Producers Association of Nova Scotia and the Sierra Club of Canada, Atlantic Canada Chapter.
A Participant Funding Review Committee, independent from the comprehensive study environmental assessment process, was established to examine all participant funding applications. All of the Committee's recommendations are unanimous and are contained in the report of the Funding Review Committee. The report, along with further information on the project, is available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, under registry number 06-03-21748.
EnCana Corporation, the project proponent, is proposing to conduct a gas development project offshore Nova Scotia in the Deep Panuke field, located about 250 km southeast of Halifax. The initial well program will consist of completing four previously drilled production wells, to prepare them for production, drilling one new injection well in Margaree and one new production well in Panuke.
