Montréal - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, inaugurated the new Remembrance Pavilion, to launch Veterans' Week at Ste. Anne's Hospital.
"Canada's new Government stands up for its Veterans by making sure they have the state-of-the-art facilities that truly meet their needs", said Minister Thompson. "This Modernization Project demonstrates our commitment to provide high quality care to our Veterans."
The Remembrance Pavilion, built at a cost of $22.2M, was designed for Veterans suffering from cognitive deficiencies, such as Alzheimer's disease. The facility has a total capacity of 116 beds and has been built in such a way as to ensure the safety of its clients, improve their orientation inside the building, provide optimal sensory stimulation, respect their privacy and offer as much freedom of movement as possible.
The Modernization Project will enable Ste. Anne's Hospital to better meet the changing needs of its clients, as well as the standards set by the Government of Quebec regarding long-term care facility design. This project involves the construction of a thermal power plant, which is now complete, the construction of the Remembrance Pavilion, as well as the complete renovation of the main tower, which includes converting the dormitory-style accommodations into private rooms.
"On the eve of Ste. Anne's Hospital's 90th anniversary, I would like to express how thrilled I am to be reaching this milestone. I am extremely proud of our commitment with regards to providing our Veterans with a wide range of high quality care and services", said the Hospital's Executive Director, Rachel Corneille Gravel.
