South Brook Man Jailed for Salmon Poaching

Springdale, NL - Faron Huxter of South Brook, Hall's Bay has been sentenced to two months in jail for netting salmon in inland waters.
In addition to his jail sentence, Mr. Huxter was placed on probation and prohibited from engaging in all coastal and inland fishing activity for two years.
Mr. Huxter was apprehended on August 10, 2004 near South Brook, Halls Bay as a result of a routine co-operative enforcement patrol by Springdale fishery officers and area provincial conservation officers. He was found in possession of a net and one large salmon, which were ordered forfeited to the Crown.
Mr. Huxter's previous convictions were brought to the attention of the Springdale Provincial
Court and were factored into the sentencing. His last conviction was in 1996 for sweeping a salmon pool with a net for which he received 40 days in jail and two years of probation.
Illegal cod fishing
Wilfred Bartlett from Brighton was convicted in Springdale Provincial Court and fined $200 for offences related to illegal cod fishing in 2005.
Mr. Bartlett was fined $100 for recreationally fishing groundfish during a closed time and an additional $100 for possessing fish taken in contravention of Regulations.
