OTTAWA − The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Tom
Calkin to the board of directors of the Atlantic Pilotage Authority for a period
of three years.
"I am very pleased that Mr. Calkin, with many years of experience in management,
impeccable academic credentials and a proven track record in various business
interests, will be serving on this board," said Minister Cannon. "The Atlantic
Pilotage Authority is a key Crown corporation, because it is legislatively
responsible for operating, maintaining and administering an efficient and safe
pilotage service within this region."
Mr. Calkin holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University
of New Brunswick, and also received a masters in business administration from
the Wharton Graduate School of Management at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr.
Calkin is a member of the Nova Scotia Association of Professional Engineers, and
is a certified management consultant. From 1988 until 2006, Mr. Calkin served as
president and chief executive officer of Duncan Thomas & Associates, a company
that offers financial services. In 2005, he served as chair of the Halifax
Dartmouth Bridge Commission in Halifax for one year. Between 1988 and 1996, Mr.
Calkin also held various positions as president, vice president and director of
several firms across Canada. From 1980 until 1988, he served as vice president,
Western Region, of Stephenson Kellogg Ernst & Whinney in Vancouver, British
Columbia. Mr. Calkin is also the owner and director of T.P.Calkin Limited in
Nova Scotia.
The Atlantic Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972 under the
Pilotage Act. It operates and maintains a safe, efficient and economical
pilotage service on all coastal waters in the Atlantic region.
