APPOINTMENT TO SAINT JOHN PORT AUTHORITY
OTTAWA − The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Stephen
Campbell of Rothesay, New Brunswick to the board of directors of the Saint John
Port Authority for a term of three years.
"Mr. Campbell has previously served as vice chairman of this port authority
for four years," said Minister Cannon. "I am pleased that he has agreed to once
again lend his financial expertise to the board of directors of the Saint John
Port Authority."
Mr. Campbell holds a bachelor of business administration and a masters of
science. He is a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, a Canadian
investment manager and a personal financial planner. Mr. Campbell currently
serves as vice president of Royal Bank Financial Group, a position he has held
since 1995. Mr. Campbell was also regional vice president and branch manager
with Midland Walwyn Capital from 1990 to 1995, and from 1982 to 1990 he served
as vice president of Scotia Bond Company Limited. He has been the committee
chairman for the Saint John Board of Trade, and has served as vice chairman and
director of the Saint John Port Authority and as director of New Brunswick Power
Corporation. From 1988 to 1991, he served as Deputy Mayor of the Town of
Quispamsis.
The Saint John Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established
to manage the Port of Saint John under the Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the
Saint John Port Authority benefits from greater management flexibility,
including increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money from
commercial lenders.
The Port of Saint John handles about 27 million tonnes of cargo annually. Its
facilities handle all kinds of ships, including bulk carriers, roll-on/roll-off
vessels, forest products carriers, container ships, tankers and conventional
cargo vessels. In 2005, the port welcomed 37 cruise ships carrying more than
90,000 passengers.
