REXTON, New Brunswick, December 18, 2006 A $363,553 competitive contract has been awarded to Rockwood Transportation Co. Ltd., of Rexton, New Brunswick for the reconstruction of a shore protection structure in Kings County, P.E.I. Awarded on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed by mid-March 2007.
The announcement was made today by Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for TobiqueMactaquac, on behalf of the Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.
"The project will provide Launching Pond with adequate protection for the existing facilities," said Mr. Allen. "This contract is a demonstration of the commitment by Canada's New Government to provide a safe and healthy environment for those living and working near harbours."
Work under this project involves reconstruction of the south breakwater wharf at Launching Pond. The company will supply and install new steel H piles, new pre-cast concrete panels and steel seats as well as filter fabric. In addition, the company will load, transport and install core, filter and armour stone. Finally, the company is also responsible for the demolition, removal and disposal of the existing breakwater materials.
