APPOINTMENTS TO PARC DOWNSVIEW PARK INC.
OTTAWA - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure
and Communities, today announced the following appointments to the Parc
Downsview Park's board of directors: Mr. Rob Lowry for a term of two years; and
Mr. James W. Ramsay for a term of three years.
"The plan for Downsview Park is to create an urban oasis in a vast and growing
city," said Minister Cannon. "That is why I am pleased that these individuals
have agreed to serve on the board of Parc Downsview Park - to help make the
vision of a park for all ages and all seasons in an environmentally and socially
sustainable manner into a reality. Together, their experience in business
management, finance and positions of community leadership will serve the board
well."
Mr. Rob Lowry holds a bachelor of architecture and a master of business
administration from the University of Toronto. He currently serves as the
general manager of Property One Consulting, and has spent the last 35 years in
facility planning and property development. Mr. Lowry has held the post of
executive director, design and construction, and assistant deputy minister for
the Management Board Secretariat, Ontario. During his six years at the Ministry
of Government Services, Ontario, Mr. Lowry held the posts of director, planning
branch, manager, accommodation planning section, and program executive, program
management branch. Mr. Lowry is a current board member of the Royal
Architectural Institute of Canada, the Ontario Association of Architects, and
the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
Mr. James W. Ramsay currently works as a consultant and is the president of
James Ramsay Consultants. From 1993 until 1995, Mr. Ramsay was a commissioner of
the Canadian Pension Commission, where he adjudicated veteran pension claims. He
has held the post of vice-president, Eastern Canada Land and Housing, Genstar
Corporation, and vice-president, Rygate Homes. Mr. Ramsay has also held the post
of vice-president of Great Northern Capital, which later merged into Genstar
Corporation.
Downsview Park, in Toronto, Ontario, is a unique urban park and recreational
green space created from the remaining lands of the former Canadian Forces Base
Toronto. The park was dedicated to Canadians on September 29, 2003, as a major
federal urban park. The approximately 600-acre site is operated by Parc
Downsview Park Inc., an agent Crown corporation, which is mandated to manage and
develop part of the Downsview lands on a self-financing basis as a unique urban
recreational green space to be held in perpetuity for the enjoyment of future
generations. Approximately 300 acres consists of green space for public
enjoyment while the remaining area is developed commercially to support the
operation of the park.
