Canada's New Government Renews Partnership Agreement With the Business Development Centres

News Release

January 9, 2007 The Honourable
Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister
of Canada Economic Development, announced the four-year renewal of the partnership agreement
between Canada's new government and the Business Development Centres (BDCs), known as the
Centres d'aide aux entreprises (CAE).
This agreement will enable the BDCs to continue providing support to local
businesses in its area. This agreement with
Canada Economic Development covers the four-year period between
July 1, 2006, and March 31, 2010.
"Business Development Centres have successfully passed the test of time. By
delivering technical and financial services to business, their contribution to
local development has become one of the keys to the success and reach of our
enterprises. This funding from Canada Economic Development will enable
the BDCs to continue moving forward along that path," stated
Minister Blackburn.
In addition to creating and maintaining sustainable jobs, Quebec's ten BDCs
are committed to fostering the development of small and medium-sized enterprises
in the regions by providing them with professional business support and
guidance. These organizations are headed by independent volunteer boards of
directors made up of representatives of a variety of interest groups. The
Government of Canada has been a proud partner of the BDCs for the past
25 years.
Canada Economic Development's mission is to promote the long-term
economic development of the regions of Quebec, paying special attention to those
where slow economic growth is prevalent or opportunities for productive
employment are inadequate.
