The Honourable David Emerson, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics, will hold a media teleconference from Beijing, China on Tuesday, January 16, 2007.
Minister Emerson, accompanied by James Moore, Parliamentary Secretary for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics, is leading two Canadian business delegations to Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, China, from January 14 to 19. The trip provides an opportunity to advance Canada-China bilateral relations by highlighting the opportunities available to Canadian companies in China, improving Canada's visibility in China and promoting Canada as a leading edge innovative partner.
Minister Emerson is meeting with Chinese officials with a view to strengthening Canada's overall bilateral commercial relationship with China, signing a Science and Technology (S&T) Cooperation Agreement, showcasing Canadian expertise in certain strategic sectors and promoting Canada as the best gateway between Asia and North America.

Earlier on January 16, Minister Emerson will be signing the Science and Technology Cooperation agreement with Xu Guanhua, China's Minister for Science and Technology.
