OTTAWA, January 31, 2007 The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry, today appointed Ms. Susan Green as a member of the Northlands Board of Directors.
"The Northlands Board of Directors has successfully, throughout the years, provided programs, events and facilities to the residents of Northern/Central Alberta," said Minister Bernier. "Ms. Green's knowledge of Alberta, from serving the province throughout her career, will serve her well as she joins the board and I look forward to seeing Northlands' continued success."
Throughout her career, Susan Green has served in various capacities in the private, public and university sectors. She held the positions of Vice-President External Relations at the University of Alberta and Executive Officer at the Alberta Cancer Foundation. She also worked as an Executive Assistant and Senior Policy Advisor within the Government of Alberta. In 2005, Ms. Green received Alberta's Centennial Medal for Community and Professional Service and was awarded the Global TV Woman of Vision this past year.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, the Governor in Council designates two people as Directors to Northlands on the recommendation of the Minister of Industry, according to the Articles of Association of Northlands. The Directors are all volunteers and they receive no financial remuneration.
Northlands is a non-profit, volunteer organization, which contributes to its community by providing agricultural, entertainment and business events and maintaining multi-purpose facilities, through the reinvestment of its revenues in the events and facilities it maintains for Edmontonians and the residents of Northern/Central Alberta.
