BRISTOL, New Brunswick, February 2, 2007 -- On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Mr. Mike Allen, Member of Parliament (Tobique-Mactaquac), will announce $6,000 in funding, tomorrow, for the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council. This funding will support the group's 2006-2007 season. Mr. Allen will be presenting the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council with a cheque at the February 3 concert in Bristol, New Brunswick.
"Canada's New Government is committed to investing in the creative potential of our communities," said Minister Oda. "We are pleased to support the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council in their efforts to give local audiences the chance to discover emerging artists from across Canada."
"This support will enable the Council to continue its work to present a diverse performing arts series," added Mr. Allen. "I am pleased that our Government is supporting the cultural life of this region."
"We are delighted to receive this funding to help us continue to offer high-quality, performing arts productions to the public," indicated Mr. Peter McLaughlin, President of the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council.
Founded in 1979, the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council presents artistic performances from different provinces and promotes cultural experiences between professional artists and audiences from rural western New Brunswick.
Canada's New Government has provided these funds through the Arts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
