Minister Hand Delivered Valentines to Perley Rideau Veterans

News Release

February 13, 2007

Ottawa - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, personally delivered hand-crafted valentines to Veterans living at Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa, today.
"The fact that so many children made these special mementoes to thank our Veterans shows that the memories of their sacrifices and achievements are not forgotten," said Minister Thompson. "It is a personal honour for me to be here among some of Canada's most beloved citizens, hear their stories and help recognize what they have done for our nation."
Greg Fougère, Executive Director, of the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre said, "The Valentines for Veterans program is an opportunity for all Canadians to show their continued appreciation for the sacrifices made by the men and women who served our country so valiantly. We are delighted that Minister Thompson visited the Centre today to launch this year's Valentines for Vets initiative."
This year 10,700 Veterans in over 2,000 long-term care facilities across Canada will receive valentines. The valentines were made by youth across Canada as part of the Valentines for Vets program, an annual project run by Veterans Affairs Canada.
