More choices for Europe-bound travellers

OTTAWA -- The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, has announced the designation of
Skyservice to operate scheduled international air services between Canada and
the European countries of Belgium, Croatia, France and Serbia.
Under the provisions of Canada's international air transportation policy, all
Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister for designation to operate
scheduled international air services. Skyservice is seeking to initiate
own-aircraft scheduled services to the above-noted countries.
"The policy we have in place encourages growth in the Canadian airline industry
and provides greater choices to Canadian travellers," said Minister Cannon. "We
are pleased that under our air agreements, Skyservice has decided to expand its
services to Europe."
These latest designations were made possible by the bilateral air transport
agreements already in place with the respective European countries. In all
cases, the agreements permit each country to designate any number of airlines
for the operation of scheduled air services to and from Canada.
Skyservice has expressed interest in offering air services to Croatia and Serbia
as a result of the recently concluded new air services agreements with these two
countries.
