No. 45
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency, and the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries
and Oceans, today announced that Canada’s Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation,
Loyola Sullivan, is in Europe to emphasize the humaneness and sustainability of the
Canadian seal hunt.
“I want to highlight to Europeans that the seal hunt is humane, sustainable,
well-managed and regulated. It is part of Canada’s cultural and economic fabric,” said
Ambassador Sullivan.
From March 26 to April 6, Ambassador Sullivan will travel to Belgium, the United
Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Austria. The Ambassador will be
accompanied by a number of important groups that rely on the seal hunt, including
sealers and representatives from Inuit communities.
