Val-d'Or, Quebec, March 28, 2007 The Honourable
Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of
Canada Economic Development, today announced a
$20,000 non-repayable contribution to Abitibi Géophysique, to enable that
company to test a new concept of geophysical exploration through induced
polarization. This method should help locate mineralized deposits that may
contain precious and base metals, at depths up to three times greater than the
conventional approach.
"Such a project could actively contribute to the discovery of deep deposits
in the region and an increase in ore reserves," stated Minister Blackburn.
"Thus, the financial assistance provided to Abitibi Géophysique ties in with
Canada's new government's desire to support innovative enterprises. In that
respect, Canada Economic Development's contribution will lead to the testing of
a new technology and, potentially, the opening of new mines that will generate
wealth and well-paid employment in the region."
The Industrial Research Assistance Program of the National Research Council
of Canada (IRAP-NRC) has also provided assistance for Abitibi Géophysique,
notably by offering advice concerning intellectual property and linking the
company with other helpful resources in the context of development of its
innovative technology. A $20,000 financial contribution has also been awarded by
IRAP-NRC for this project.
"Canada Economic Development is a solid partner for our
company," stated Pierre Bérubé, President of Abitibi Géophysique.
"This financial assistance enables us to confirm the development of distinctive
competency and helps position the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region on the
geophysical world stage."
