Alma, Quebec, March 30, 2007 The Honourable
Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of
Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $200,000
in repayable funding to Spectube Inc. for the acquisition of strategic
equipment and installation of an integrated management system to help accelerate
the firm's growth.
Spectube specializes in the manufacture and processing of high-quality
aluminium drawn tubing and extrusions. With its acquisition of the Indalex drawn
tube manufacturing plant in Winton, North Carolina, and the development of
its new business concept ALFINITI Inc., Spectube has become a true
North American leader in the secondary and tertiary processing industry.
This government funding will enable the Saguenay-based enterprise to improve its
performance as well as the quality of its products.
"Over the years, Spectube has shown proof of flexibility and professionalism
in bringing its clients customized products adapted to their needs. The project
it is undertaking is fully in line with the determination of Canada's new
government to support competitiveness, productivity and foreign market
development. Today, in light of this company's growing market share and the
clear desire of its management to put all of the resources in place to
consolidate these gains and develop new value-added products, Canada's new
government is understandably proud to support Spectube in its productivity
enhancement projects," stated Minister Blackburn.
"This equipment is essential to our development in that it will enable us to
increase our productivity in one of our areas of expertise. We know that lower
productivity among Canadian businesses is one of the main obstacles to their
expansion. This support we are receiving from the Government of Canada will help
our enterprise better tackle the growth challenge," added Spectube
President Jean Paré.
Spectube's project, whose cost is evaluated at more than $450,000, will
contribute to the maintenance of 60 existing jobs. Aluminium processing is
one of the key economic sectors targeted by the regional intervention strategy
of Canada Economic Development's SaguenayLac-Saint-Jean
business office.
