FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BROOKS, ALBERTA —The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced $232,876 in funding for the Society of Brooks Community Adult Learning Council f or a six-month program to help young people in Brooks make a successful transition into the workplace.
“Canada's New Government is proud to invest in initiatives that will allow young Canadians to gain the work experience that matters and access better employment opportunities," said Minister Solberg. "This project will assist the Society of Brooks Community Adult Learning Council in providing young Albertans with essential training to develop life skills and enhance their employment skills."
Under the program, Connecting People, Skills, Jobs , participating youth will prepare individual action plans to help identify and develop the skills necessary to address barriers to employment. Participants will attend a series of workshops and courses that will teach life skills, knowledge of various industries, resume-writing and interview skills, as well as take part in an eight-week work placement. By the end of the program, it is expected that more than 80 percent of participants will be successful in finding employment or returning to school.
