Landmark, Manitoba – The southeastern Manitoba
community of Landmark will be able to proceed with the expansion of its
community’s lagoon with a $375,000 contribution from Canada’s
New Government and the Province of Manitoba through the Canada-Manitoba
Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).
The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board, on behalf
of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen’s Privy Council
for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western
Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Ron Lemieux, Manitoba Minister
of Infrastructure and Transportation, made the announcement today.
“Canada’s New Government is working in partnership to get
things done for the people of the Rural Municipality of Taché,”
said Minister Toews. “Through this joint investment of $375,000,
we are improving the quality of life for families in these communities.”
“We are pleased to partner on a key project that will ensure the
community of Landmark can continue to grow in size and still meet environmental
requirements,” said Minister Lemieux. “This will benefit people’s
health and will help improve the environment and the economy.”
This is the fourth of 13 infrastructure projects totaling more than
$17 million being announced in Manitoba by Canada’s New Government
and the Province of Manitoba.
The infrastructure project announced today in the RM of Taché will
expand Landmark’s lagoon to meet the needs of the growing community
and alleviate the current environmental concerns surrounding the existing
lagoon.
“The RM of Taché is pleased to be involved in partnership
with the federal and provincial governments to deliver another sustainable
project which will strengthen the economic and environmental capacity
of the industrious community of Landmark,” said William Danylchuk,
Reeve of the RM of Taché.
More specific details of the other projects receiving contributions
through MRIF will be revealed at events with local partners held throughout
the province over the coming weeks. The projects being announced support
MRIF’s green and recreation project categories.
The Canada-Manitoba Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) is investing
a total of $120 million in communities across Manitoba. Of the total funds,
80 percent of MRIF is earmarked for communities with a population under
250,000, including 198 municipalities and 50 unincorporated Northern Community
Councils in rural and northern Manitoba. The remaining 20 percent is for
communities with populations over 250,000.
