SASKATOON, March 23, 2007 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, the Honourable Carol Skelton, Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament (Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar), today announced $33,000 in funding for The Gardener for the Prairies magazine. The funds will enable the magazine to explore new business opportunities to increase its advertising revenues and circulation, as well as to enhance the financial viability of its magazine.
"This funding helps to fulfill the commitment of Canada's New Government to give the magazine industry the tools it needs so that it can offer Canadians a wide range of high-quality magazines and contribute to the vitality of our cultural environment," said Minister Oda.
"The Gardener for the Prairies magazine enables Canadian gardening fans to share their knowledge, views, and know-how," added Minister Skelton. "With this financial support, the magazine will now be able to attract more readers to its magazine."
"We are extremely grateful for the generous contribution we've received from the Canada Magazine Fund," said Noelle Chorney, Managing Editor of The Gardener for the Prairies. "The contribution will allow us to conduct an extensive marketing campaign throughout Western Canada, increasing our distribution and helping us meet our goals to reach out to more gardening enthusiasts."
Canada's New Government has provided the support through the Support for Business Development for Small Magazine Publishers component of the Canada Magazine Fund. This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage seeks to ensure the growth and profitability of small magazine publishers.
