GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alberta, March 28, 2007 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament (Peace River), met last week with the Grande Prairie Live Theatre Society to announce funding of $15,000 to deliver its 2007 Performance Series.
"Arts and culture play a vital role in our communities across Canada," said Minister Oda. "Canada's New Government is pleased to invest in organizations such as this one, which offer Canadians exposure to quality artistic performances."
"The Grande Prairie Live Theatre Society has high artistic standards and enjoys immense popularity," declared Chris Warkentin. "This funding will allow one of Grande Prairie's most important cultural institutions to continue to present outstanding performances which have a great impact on the cultural life of Peace River area residents."
"This funding enables our organization to continue to offer a variety of quality productions that appeal to everyone: children and adults, local residents and visitors alike," said Gail Littleton, General Manager for the Grande Prairie Live Theatre Society.
In the last 41 years, Grande Prairie Live Theatre Society has produced more than 200 shows. From musicals, dramas, concerts, and festivals, the Society has become known as the premiere producer of live events in Grande Prairie. This investment will allow the Society to deliver its annual performance series, which runs from April 1, 2007 - March 31, 2008.
Canada's New Government has provided this funding through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
