Governor General to receive honorary doctorate from York University and commemorate the 200th anniversary of the British abolition of the slave trade

OTTAWAHer Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will receive an honorary doctorate of laws from York University on Sunday, March 25, 2007, at 2 p.m. in Toronto. The Governor General will also commemorate the 200th anniversary of the British abolition of the slave trade by delivering the keynote speech at the inauguration of the Harriet Tubman Institute, a new research centre at York University devoted to the study of global migrations of African peoples.
The convocation ceremony and the inauguration are open to the media.
