Minister Tony Clement Moves to Improve Children's Health by Appointing Dr. Kellie Leitch as New Advisor

OTTAWA - Canada's New Government took another step today to improve and protect the health of children when Health Minister Tony Clement appointed Dr. Khristinn Kellie Leitch as his Advisor on Healthy Children and Youth.
"I am very pleased that Dr. Leitch has agreed to take on this role," said Minister Clement. "Her appointment is an important step forward as Canada's New Government works to address children's health issues."
Dr. Leitch is Chair of Paediatric Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario/Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry; Assistant Dean at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry; and Co-director of the Health Sector MBA program at the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario. She also recently chaired the Expert Panel for the Children's Fitness Tax Credit for the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance.
Dr. Leitch will examine the health issues facing Canada's children and youth and will provide Minister Clement with advice on what actions the Health Portfolio can take to best contribute to enhancing their health.
As part of her mandate, Dr. Leitch will meet with stakeholders from across the country as well as provincial and territorial governments to form recommendations as to key federal priorities and opportunities in the domain of children and youth health.
"I welcome the challenge Minister Clement has given me," said Dr. Leitch. "I look forward to the upcoming discussions and I am confident they will contribute to better health for young Canadians."
Dr. Leitch will present her recommendations to Minister Clement by July 2007.
