Ottawa Today, the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced a $4,000 contribution to the Atlantic Provinces Korea Veterans Association. The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Partnership Contribution Program, will be used to support the Association's annual national reunion in August.
"The men and women who served in Korea contributed so much to our collective history," said Minister MacKay. "Canada's New Government is proud to offer support to them as they gather to honour their fallen comrades and reflect on their own experiences."
The Association's reunion will be held from August 17 to 19, 2007, in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Activities will include a banquet, to be held in Kentville, as well as a parade and wreath-laying ceremony at the Korea War Veterans Memorial in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. More than 300 Veterans are expected to attend.
Tim Parker, President for the Nova Scotia Unit of the Atlantic Provinces Korea Veterans Association, expressed gratitude for the contribution, "We are very pleased to be partnering with Veterans Affairs for this year's reunion. The funding will help to make this a memorable occasion for our members."
The Partnership Contribution Program (PCP) provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers Program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based events.
