Canada's New Government Awards $100,000 to Thermalco Inc. for Oven Prototype Trial Phase

Sept-Îles, Quebec, April 3, 2007 The
Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, the
Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, today announced payment of a $100,000
financial contribution to North Shore company, Thermalco Inc. to
perfect and test an oven prototype for heating hen houses through combustion of
poultry litter.
This investment by Canada Economic Development will now enable
Thermalco to go beyond development of its prototype and move into the trial
phase of this innovative project. Installation of the prototype in an
agricultural business during winter 2007 will be used to check the
different manufacturing parameters and make the necessary changes and
adjustments to construction of a commercializable version meeting environmental
standards for greenhouse gas emissions.
"The process being developed by Thermalco illustrates the meaning of the word
innovation since it involves a new product that enjoys a competitive edge as a
result of its innovative nature," stated Minister Blackburn. "Also, it is
an ecological process which dovetails perfectly with the environmental
priorities for waste enhancement espoused by Canada's new government. The
Agency's support for this project is aimed at encouraging technological
innovation in enterprises, as that is one of the best strategies for securing
the economic diversification of Quebec's regions."
"Perfecting a process such as a combustion oven running on poultry waste
involves numerous stages and substantial investment," stated Marc Lefebvre,
Director of Thermalco Inc. "In addition to cutting the financial cost of
launching the product, Canada Economic Development's support
acknowledges our ability to work away from major urban centres on research and
development activities that hold promise for our region."
Thermalco has been working since 2004 on developing this product that is
unique in the heating system field. The firm already has orders to buy this
system, which meets a desperate need from poultry farmers. Upon completion, the
project should lead to the creation in Baie-Comeau of a new enterprise to handle
the marketing and contract manufacturing of this new oven.
