Alma, Quebec, April 4, 2007 The
Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of
Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $314,963
in repayable funding to Bouilloire Falmec Inc. for the adjustment and
upgrading of technology used in the design of water tube boilers for
cogeneration plants producing less than 2.5 megawatts of electricity. This
funding will also serve for the preparation of a productivity enhancement study
and export sales strategy. These projects are expected to result in the creation
of 10 or so jobs over the next year.
Bouilloire Falmec specializes in the design, development and manufacture
of pressure vessels and industrial equipment. With innovation, creativity and
excellence at the heart of its priorities, the enterprise offers comprehensive
support for thermal power and biomass cogeneration plant projects.
"This is more good news for the Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean economy.
These projects undertaken by Bouilloire Falmec promise major
spin-offs, be they in the areas of job creation, new market development or
improving the competitiveness of the enterprise through innovation, research and
development and productivity. This support from Canada's new government is
also motivated by the important role greenhouse gas reduction plays in achieving
sustainable development. The equipment used will enable the firm to exceed
Canadian standards by replacing fossil fuels (coal, oil or natural gas) with
environmentally-friendlier biomass fuel. Today's announcement serves as a
reminder that SMEs and entrepreneurs are engines of the modern economy.
Canada's new government knows they work hard, create jobs and drive the
economy. Indeed, the 2007 budget announced a few weeks ago provides for a
series of initiatives aimed at assisting Canada's small businesses," stated
Minister Blackburn.
"This support from Canada Economic Development will give us the
tools we need to become more competitive. It will play a large part in helping
our enterprise grow in the area of innovation and find the best manufacturing
processes. This funding will also enable us to raise our profile among U.S.
clients and better structure our export sales strategy," concluded
Bouilloire Falmec President Luc Martel.
