FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WESTLOCK , ALBERTA — On behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Brian Storseth, Member of Parliament for Westlock–St. Paul, today announced Skills Link funding of $153,835 for Lokken Career Training. The funding is for a project that will help youth in and around the Westlock area make a successful transition into the workplace.
“Canada's New Government is proud to invest in this innovative program which helps youth between the ages of 15 and 30 get career-related experience,” said Mr. Storseth. “Participants will have the opportunity to develop skills and gain job experience so that they can reach their goals and achieve their true potential.”
“This initiative will allow us to take our services to youth in the communities in which they live and overcome transportation barriers that may have prevented them from receiving assistance in the past,” said Tim Steele, President and General Manager of Lokken Career Training. “This important initiative engages and empowers youth and communities in developing the human resources available to support employment in the local labour market.”
Lokken Career Training provides training and employment services to help individuals achieve more independence. The Lokken outreach program will help youth facing barriers to employment develop both the life and employment skills they need to enter the job market, and maintain employment.
The Skills Link program is one of three programs offered under Service Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy. The other two are Summer Work Experience and Career Focus.
