BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
John Mundy (BA [Politics and Economics], Queen's University, 1973; MBA, University
of Western Ontario, 1977) joined the Canadian Foreign Service as an assistant trade
commissioner 30 years ago and has served abroad in Seoul, Manila, Islamabad,
Brussels and most recently in Sydney, Australia, where he was Consul General from
1999 to 2003. Early in his career, he was seconded to the Asian Development Bank
and to the Export Development Corporation. He has worked on a variety of issues at
the headquarters of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, including
international financing, bilateral relations with Korea and Oceania, and environment and
sustainable development. He recently returned from a secondment to Environment
Canada, where he served as Director General in the Global Climate Affairs Office, to
serve as Director, Environment and Energy Division at DFAIT. He is married to Leanne
Mundy and they have three children. John Mundy succeeds Gordon Venner.
