The Governor General and Mr. Lafond to Welcome the President of the Republic of Hungary

OTTAWA Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond will receive His Excellency László Sólyom, President of the Republic of Hungary, during his State visit to Canada. The President, who will be in Ottawa on April 25 and 26, 2007, will participate in the following events with Their Excellencies:
Wednesday, April 25
9:45 a.m. Official welcoming ceremonyDue to rehabilitation work currently being done on the front façade of Rideau Hall, the official arrival ceremony, with military honours, will be held outside near the front of Rideau Hall.OPEN TO MEDIA - Media are asked to be in place no later than 9:30 a.m.
10:00 a.m. Welcoming remarksThe Governor General will offer remarks, in the Tent Room at Rideau Hall, to which the President of the Republic of Hungary will reply.
10:15 a.m. Meeting between Their Excellencies and the PresidentPHOTO OP AT THE START OF THE MEETING
10:40 a.m. Tree-planting ceremonyThe President of the Republic of Hungary will plant a silver fir tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall in commemoration of his visit to Canada.OPEN TO MEDIA
7:00 p.m. State dinnerThe Governor General and Mr. Lafond will host a State dinner in the Ballroom at Rideau Hall in honour of the President of the Republic of Hungary.OPEN TO MEDIA FOR SPEECHES AND TOASTS.
